“Pushing boundaries with curiosity, interpretation, and innovation drives me in my artistic journey”
About
I am Janani Suresh Ram, a passionate dancer, a choreographer, a researcher, and an educator. I have learnt the age-old art form of Bharatanāṭyam from the age of 5 under Gurus – Kalaimamani K.J. Sarasa, and Kalaimamani Lavanya Sankar, and have performed across India and Germany in the last 30 years. My latest production “Blend” is an intercontinental dialogue of art bringing together Bharatanāṭyam and Western classical Violin and Cello.
I extensively studied under Padma Bhushan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam which led to my Masters in Bharatanāṭyam from Sastra University, India in 2015. In 2020, after undertaking a 4-year research, I received my doctorate in Performance Studies from the University of Tübingen in Germany.
My creative aspirations as an artist led to the birth of Dance Parlour, a space where reflections on creative choreographies, interpretations, research, and knowledge flows are recorded and published regularly.
